UHDB is home to the newest hospital in the East Midlands, The Royal Derby Hospital, following a £334 million transformation of the former Derby City General Hospital. The Royal has 1,159 beds and provides state of the art care to around one million patients from Derby and the surrounding areas every year. UHDB has one of the largest Trauma and Orthopaedic services in the country and is the regional centre for Bariatric Surgery.

UHDB is also home to the Derby Clinical Trials Support Unit (DCTSU) which  was established in 2008. The DCTSU has expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials and has an experienced team of methodologists, trialists, data managers, trial managers, statisticians, clinical trials pharmacists and research nurses.

The DCTSU can provide support with a variety of trial sizes and designs, from single-centre feasibilities through to multi-centre, interventional, randomised controlled trials.
