Clinical research is a fundamental part of their work and they host hundreds of clinical research studies, including approximately 250 complex clinical trials every year.

In 2018/19, more than 14,000 volunteers participated in over 500 clinical trials making them one of the most research-active trusts in the country.

Their range of work includes:

  • Supporting NHS and commercial research studies
  • Offering a seamless, end-to-end process for the rapid translation of research into clinical practice
  • Providing solutions that meet the needs of NHS patients, clinicians and commissioners

They also host two centres of excellence for translational research. The first is the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre which finds new ways to treat common illnesses. While the NIHR Nottingham Clinical Research Facility offers state-of- art facilities, expertise and support for early-phase research for adults and children
